A Day in the Life of SIXGUN Founder David Pagotto

In the latest edition of the Digital “day in the life of” series, Shannon Harrison caught up with David Pagotto, Founder at SIXGUN to learn about his experience running a successful Digital Marketing agency, and advice to candidates looking to forge a career in this space.

Q – What does SIXGUN do?

“SIXGUN is a digital marketing agency focused on SEO, Google Ads, social media marketing and Google Analytics. Essentially, the performance marketing side of digital.”

Q – Why did you found SIXGUN, and where might you take the agency from here?

SIXGUN was founded with the idea of providing a better client experience, and a better employee experience in the digital marketing space. With 16 team members currently, we are excited about expanding substantially in the coming years and providing a greater level of social impact with our expansion.”

Q – What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?

“Being at the top of a digital marketing agency has its challenges, and both soft and hard skills are essential. Most importantly, my role is about leadership and motivation which I try to always bring to the team.”

Q – Tell us about a typical working day…

“I wear lots of hats within SIXGUN, so there isn’t any one typical day. In saying that usually a combination of emails, calls, talking with my department Directors, marketing, recruitment, and all things in between. I always try to eliminate the roadblocks that slow my team down.”

Q – What do you love about your job? What sucks?

“Getting to see the results and growth we bring to organisations is what gets me up in the morning. Seeing my team succeed, and the engagements we have in the non-profit space (like our work with Sea Shepherd) are just as amazing to focus on.

Owning a business is a tough and tireless endeavour. It’s a real privilege but is also a weight that doesn’t leave you. There isn’t a moment where SIXGUN leaves my mind and that can be challenging at times, particularly with a family.”

Q – What kind of goals do you have?

“Driving growth for SIXGUN as a business, seeing the same for our clients, and watching our team succeed inside and outside SIXGUN are the goals I have in place for 2025.”

Q – What are your favourite tools to help you to get the job done?

“From an SEO and technical delivery perspective, I use Ahrefs, Screaming Frog and Asana. All of which are indispensable tools to bring strong client performance.”

Q – What new technology are you most excited about (if any)?

“Everything AI of course! AI continues to develop, and it’s our job to ensure we can use it to assist our team in getting better client results for the same client budget. The next few years are going to see a lot of development in this space.”

Q – How did you get into the SEO space and do you have any advice for people who want to work within the SEO world?

“SEO is a great field of work to get into. I was immersed in it when I was back in high school trying to work out how to set up affiliate marketing websites amongst other things. It’s a strong foundation and has a good future, and starting in a fast-paced agency can bring you up to speed quickly with the right skills.”
