It’s no secret that mobile and online channels have become some of the most popular ways to recruit, and if you haven’t heard this then WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!

At Searchability we’ve been pioneering this trend over the last 5 years, and seeing as we just collected two 2017 Onrec Awards for ‘The Best Use of Online Recruitment by a Recruitment Agency’ and ‘Best Use of Mobile’, it’s safe to say we know a thing or two about it! Here are 8 reasons you should make mobile and online recruitment a priority, and some simple tips to make sure your strategy works!

Your candidate pool increases enormously!

A CRM full of candidates and access to the job board CV search function will only get you so far in recruitment. Sure you will make placements off the back of it, but often these candidates are the same ones your competitors are speaking to meaning it’s often ‘fastest finger first’ if you want to secure a deal! Instead online recruitment gives you access to an enormous candidate pool – just think how many people use Facebook / Twitter daily for example! Social Media allows you to source and target candidates, as well as build a network and use content marketing to help hook candidates at the point they start to think about a new role (before their CV is out to every agency out there!).

You can make informed recruitment decisions!

Using online / social channels for candidate attraction means you can collect live data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of each. The technology behind this can aggregate data, build reports and show you what is (and what definitely isn’t) working. Whether it’s a successful email campaign, a targeted social advert, or simply a text message template – you’ll be able to measure the effectiveness of your online campaigns, so that you can make informed decisions for the future!

You’ll reduce your time to hire!

We have a saying in recruitment: “Time kills all deals”. Not always the case but still it’s better to reduce the time to hire for your clients, and find the right candidate before another agency does! Traditional recruitment advertising can be pretty slow, so when time is of the essence online recruitment is your new best friend. Not only can you instantly advertise 24/7, but the increased candidate pool means you have a better chance of finding that perfect candidate before it’s too late!

You’ll catch the candidates on the go!

Think about how many times you look at your phone each day, how many times you scroll through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Mobile recruiting is one of the best ways to get the attention of those hard to reach candidates! Whether it’s actively building out your candidate network on social media, posting relevant content to get engagement from relevant candidates, creating eye-catching visual adverts to attract applicants or simply using an SMS campaign, there are plenty of ways you can get noticed through mobile channels. If you’re targeting social channels in your mobile strategy remember not to just post and pray, start a conversation and engage with others – you’ll get a much better response!

Applying for a role gets so much easier!

If a perfect candidate finds one of your vacancies and decides to apply, the last thing you want is for them to sack off the applications because it was too time-consuming! If your careers site isn’t mobile ready, you’re eliminating a huge market as the majority of candidates will apply for a role through a mobile or tablet in 2017. Don’t have a mobile friendly careers site? Don’t worry, sites like JobHoller can build one for you for as little as £500 + VAT! Meaning you don’t need to change your entire website just for recruitment!

It’s not all about jobs!

With access to so much information at our fingertips 24/7 it’s no surprise that engagement levels and attention spans have declined over recent years. You are competing with viral videos of news presenters and cute dog videos – so posting boring job adverts probably isn’t going to prick the interest of in demand candidates! Instead learn about your target demographic, find out what interests them (it may be industry news, advice, blogs, humour etc.) and use the findings to map out a content plan. You’ll be more likely to build a following and engagement through relevant content, than just jobs jobs jobs!

You’ll keep your finger on the pulse

If you want to stay ahead of your competitors then you’ll need to make sure you are using relevant channels in your online recruitment. A social network that may have offered great marketing opportunities at one time (sorry MySpace but you’re a good example of this), may not be the best channel 2-3 years down the line! Plus with new features and updates happening constantly you need to make sure what you are doing is effective! Spend time each week researching trends and new platforms online, that way you can make sure you’re the first to the party when the next big thing comes to the market!
